Movie of the Month Archives

Wild Hogs

Yes we still see Movies once in awhile. I'm actually beginning to wonder if anyone reads this anyways. We saw this movie in March.

Plot:

Four middle-aged men (Tim Allen, John Travolta, Martin Lawrence, William H. Macy) decide to take a road trip from Cincinnati to the Pacific in order to get away from their lives which are leading them nowhere. Taking their motorcycles, these "Wild Hogs" tear up the road and eventually stop in New Mexico for a drink not knowing that the bar belongs to the "Del Fuegos", a mean biker gang. When the Del Fuegos steal a bike that belongs to the Wild Hogs, the four men form a plan to steal their bike back.

Jenny and I have not been to a movie in quite a long time some when my Mom said she'd take Haley for the night we jumped at the chance. We just didn't know what to see. We browsed the movie list and found that the only thing we really knew anything about in the theatres was "Wild Hogs". Weather you like motorcycles or not this was a pretty funny movie. We had a good time seeing this movie and it kept use laughing. Good mix of actors and actresses. Makes me want to go out and get a Harley and go on a road trip. Go see it you will not be disappointed.  I'm going to rate this movie a 4 out of 5 and I will  be adding this one to our DVD collection.

Inside Man

Yes we still see Movies once in awhile. I'm actually beginning to wonder if anyone reads this anyways. We saw this movie in March.

Sorry I don't have any pictures from the movie yet.

Plot: Inside Man" is the story of a tough cop, Detective Frazier (Denzel Washington), who matches wits with a clever bank robber, Dalton (Clive Owen). As the dangerous cat-and-mouse game unfolds, a wild card emerges: Madeline (Jodie Foster), a power broker with a hidden agenda, who injects even more instability into an already volatile situation.

This movie had a pretty interesting plot and the movie was well cast. But I think it was a little drawn out for my tastes. I found myself thinking "Get on with it." during the movie and I must have looked at my watch a couple of times. I'm not saying the movie was horrible but it wasn't all that great either. The acting in the movie was very well done. I thought that it was a very interesting movie for Spike Lee to do. I would wait until it comes out to the cheaper theatres to see it.

I'm going to rate this movie a 3 out of 5 and I will not be adding this one to our DVD collection unless someone gives it to me.

Walk the Line

Plot:  A chronicle of country music legend Johnny Cash's life, from his early days on an Arkansas cotton farm to his rise to fame with Sun Records in Memphis, where he recorded alongside Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins.

What we thought: I wasn't really sure how this movie was going to be until we went and saw it. I must say I was never really a big Johnny Cash fan but this movie was very well done and held my intrest threw the whole movie. I was amazed to find out that Johnny Cash had toured with Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbitson and a lot more big names in music. The acting was very well done. I can see why Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix both won Golden Globe awards for this movie. I would definately go see this movie again in the theatre and will be adding it to our DVD collection when it comes out. I'll have to give this movie a 5 out of 5.

Movie Review

Jarhead

Plot:  Jarhead (the self-imposed moniker of the Marines) follows "Swoff" (Gyllenhaal), a third-generation enlistee, from a sobering stint in boot camp to active duty, sporting a sniper's rifle and a hundred-pound ruck on his back through Middle East deserts with no cover from intolerable heat or from Iraqi soldiers, always potentially just over the next horizon. Swoff and his fellow Marines sustain themselves with sardonic humanity and wicked comedy on blazing desert fields in a country they don't understand against an enemy they can't see for a cause they don't fully fathom... Foxx portrays Sergeant Sykes, a Marine lifer who heads up Swofford's scout/sniper platoon, while Sarsgaard is Swoff's friend and mentor, Troy, a die-hard member of STA-their elite Marine Unit.

What we thought: Well I can honestly say that this was definitely not the movie I thought it was going to be. I won't spoil the movie for you but it was different. The acting in the movie was great and I'm sure it will win a few awards for that but I couldn't sit still in the movie. I will probably not be buying this one on DVD. I'm going to give this a 2 out of 5.

Movie Review

Meet the Fockers

I know we haven't been out to see a movie in a long time. We've been busy.

Plot:  This was a great sequel to the movie Meet the Parents. All hell breaks loose when the Byrnes family meets the Focker family for the first time. Having given permission to male nurse Greg Focker (Stiller) to wed his daughter (Polo), ex-CIA man Jack Byrnes (De Niro) and his wife (Danner) travel to Detroit to "meet the parents", who this time around are Mr. and Mrs. Focker (Hoffman and Streisand), who are as different from them as can be.

We have a Christmas Day tradition that after the family get together a lot of our family and a few friends get together and go see a movie. This year we picked Meet the Fockers, I think we made a great choice. I haven't laughed at a movie in the theatre in awhile. This was a great Sequel to Meet the Parents. All of the characters were well casted and their acting was great. I'd definitely see this one again and again and when it come out to DVD I'll be sure to purchase it.  I'm going to give Meet the Fockers a  4 out of 5.

Movie of The Month is

The Incredibles

Plot:

Mr. Incredible is a superhero; or he used to be, until a surge of lawsuits against superheroes submitted by the people they've saved forced the government to hide them in witness protection programs so they could lead normal, anonymous lives. Now known exclusively by his secret identity, Bob Parr, he lives with his wife Helen, formerly Elastigirl, and their three children Violet, Dash, and Jack Jack. He works as an insurance claims specialist, and he's fed up with his pushy boss and his immoral profession, but his wife's worked too hard to build a normal life for her family to abide his nostalia for heroism. When Mr. Incredible's offered the chance to play the role of hero again by a mysterious informant, he jumps at the opportunity.

Another Pixar Masterpiece, not only is this movie great for kids I think the adults will really like it too. Jenny and I both enjoyed this one! I'll give it a 4 out of 5.

Movie of The Month is

 Spiderman 2

Plot:

Peter Parker (Tobey McGuire) can't seem to catch any kind of break. Being Spiderman has brought him nothing but problems as far as his personal life is concerned. Not only that, Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst) is engaged to astronaut John Jameson, and Peter may lose her forever. Things are so bad for him that he is pushed past his breaking point, so he decides that he doesn't want to be Spiderman anymore, until a freak accident transforms Dr. Otto Octavius into Dr. Octopus, a super-villian with four metal tentacles coming out of him. Peter realizes that only Spiderman can stop him, but of course, problems arise. Mary Jane gets caught in the middle, and Harry Osborn, who still blames Spiderman for the death of his father, Norman Osborn, also the Green Goblin, wants him dead. Spiderman will have to push himself past his limits if he's going to survive.

This has to be the best superhero movie I have seen. In fact it was the best movie I have seen in a long time. Special effects were amazing, characters were once again well cast. I liked Spiderman 2 better than the first Spiderman.

Movie For December - June

Lord of the Rings Return of the King

I know the movie of the month hasn't changed in awhile. Well that's because this was the last movie that we saw. We've been a little side tracked with other things. Hopefully soon we'll have time to go out and see a movie, if we can find a baby sitter. But I don't think we'll have a hard time finding one for awhile.

Plot:

The Fellowship divides to conquer as Frodo and Sam, with the help and hindrance of Gollum, continue their way to Mount Doom. Gandalf and Pippin ride to Minas Tirith to help defend Gondor while Merry remains with Eowyn and the other Rohan fighters. Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli seek aid from those that live in the Cursed Mountains. All these battles have one goal in mind: distract the Eye of Sauron and buy Frodo a little more time to destroy the ring.

Another excellent Lord of the Rings movie, this had to be the best out of all three for me. The scenes were absolutely stunning, acting was excellent and very well cast.  I'm giving it a 5 out of 5. I will definitely be purchasing this movie on DVD when it comes out.

Movie for September is Hulk

Plot: A top secret military project hires prestigious university students to assist create a cell altering machine called the 'gammasphere'. Lead of the group is arrogant Bruce Banner, mainly complimented by compassionate Betty Ross. When the gammasphere goes wrong, Bruce Banner is afflicted with the ability to turn into a mammoth creature soon dubbed 'The Hulk', a manifestation of his own inner demons that he mutates into when it is emotionally triggered. A ruined, Jeckyll and Hyde man he may be, but a ruined man may prove to be a heroic one when a villain emerges, and close...

What I thought of it:  Animation was good, acting was good, heck even the cameo's were good. But the movie to me was bad. I found myself looking at my watch the whole movie wondering when it would end. What seemed like a 3 hr movie was only a little over 2. Not enough of the Hulk for me in this one.

I'm giving it a 2 out of 5. Next time I see this one will be when I'm bored and up late and it's on the TV.

Movie for August is Italian Job

Plot: The plan was flawless... the job was executed perfectly... the escape was clean. The only threat mastermind thief Charlie Croker (Wahlberg) never saw coming was a member of his own crew. After pulling off an amazing gold bullion heist from a heavily guarded palazzo in Venice, Italy, Charlie and his gang -- inside man Steve (Norton), computer genius Lyle (Green), wheelman handsome Rob (Statham), explosives expert Left-Ear (Mos Def) and veteran safecracker John Bridger (Sutherland) - can't believe when one of them turns out to be a double-crosser. Enter Stella (Theron), a beautiful nerves-of-steel safecracker, who joins Charlie and his former gang when they follow the backstabber to California, where they plan to re-steal the gold by tapping into Los Angeles' traffic control system, manipulating signals and creating one of the biggest traffic jams in LA history. Now the job isn't the payoff, it's about payback.

What I thought of it:  I liked it. This movie had a lot of action and a good story line. The car stunts were really awesome. The acting seemed very well done. It had a great cast and some good laughs. I would buy it when it comes out on DVD.

I'm going to rate this one at 4 out of 5.

Movie of The Month for July is Terminator 3

Plot: On the verge of Judgment Day, the most advanced Terminator unit ever, the T-X, arrives from the future to ensure the rise of the machines. The only hope against it is a new upgraded T-800 unit, the T-850, that is sent back by the human resistance. Together with John Connor, it must stop the rise of the machines or all humanity will fall.

What I thought of it:  I thought that Terminator 3 was great. Special effects were superb, if you liked T2's special effects they get even better with this one. The story was very well done considering that one of the main characters wasn't in Terminator 3. This movie is definitely worth going to see and when it comes out to DVD I'm planning on adding it to our collection.

I'm going to rate this one at 4 out of 5.
